ECO flanel 130 cm een kosten-efficiënt alternatief ontwikkeld vanuit 25 jaar praktijkervaring

ECO flannel developed from 25 years of practical experience

After more than 25 years of working in the events and textile industry, you see patterns emerge. Not only in applications, but also in products that have been used unchanged for years, even though practical experience has long shown that things can be done smarter.

Flannel is a prime example. It's a proven and reliable material for events, theater, and set construction. But over the years, we've also seen something else. In many applications, flannel is technically heavier than necessary .

This insight formed the starting point for the development of ECO flannel .

From practice to product selection

In the daily practice of stage finishing, stand construction, and decoration, flannel is almost always used in the same way. The visible side determines the appearance. The back rarely plays a role.

Traditionally, flannel is brushed on both sides as standard. This creates a rich appearance, but it also requires an additional processing step in the production process.

Based on years of experience in various productions, a different approach was consciously chosen.
ECO flannel is brushed on one side . Exactly where it's needed.

By omitting one rough cut:

  • less machine time is required

  • less energy is consumed

  • the production cost decreases

Without affecting appearance or use in most applications.

Lose weight without losing function

In addition to the finish, the specific weight was also critically examined.

Regular flannel weighs on average 165 grams per m² .
ECO flannel has been developed with a weight of approximately 140 grams per m² .

That difference may seem small, but in production it has clear consequences:

  • less cotton per square meter

  • less paint needed to achieve the same color

  • less impregnating agent for the fire-resistant treatment

The result is a flannel that can be produced more efficiently and is therefore more competitively priced , while the visible side retains the same full, matte appearance.

Economic and logistical advantage

The lower weight not only provides advantages in production, but in some cases also in logistics.

For larger volumes, lower weight means:

  • lower shipping costs

  • more efficient transport

  • easier handling on location

These aren't dramatic differences per role, but in professional projects, these kinds of details certainly matter.

Applications when ECO flannel is equivalent

Based on years of use in a wide range of productions, ECO flannel is functionally equivalent to regular flannel in most cases, including:

  • podium finishing

  • back walls

  • set construction

  • temporary event structures

  • stand construction where flannel is used as a finish or covering

The visible side meets the same requirements that professionals are accustomed to from traditional flannel.

When regular flannel remains the better choice

There are also situations where regular flannel is preferred. Especially when:

  • walls are individually upholstered

  • underlying walls differ greatly in color

  • a completely homogeneous black surface is required

In these specific applications, the slightly lighter weight of ECO flannel may not be enough to completely even out color differences. In that case, heavier, regular flannel remains the safer choice.

That nuance is important. Not every product is intended as a universal solution.

Conclusion

ECO flannel was not born from a marketing idea, but from practical experience .
By critically examining what is really needed in most applications, unnecessary operations and material use could be reduced.

The result is a flannel that:

  • performs the same in virtually all applications

  • is produced more efficiently

  • is lighter

  • and can therefore be structurally priced more competitively

Not because it is less.
But because it was designed by people who have been working with this material for decades.
